The short answer
MarketPrior lets angel investors, scouts and syndicate leads run a fund-grade public-record check on a startup and its founders: sanctions and PEP screening, director disqualifications, litigation, adverse media, filings, ownership and traction signals, combined into a risk × upside verdict with every finding linked to its source. The verdict is free for any company; the full report unlocks per company.

Why should an angel check the public record?
At the angel stage there is little financial history to analyse, so the biggest risks are about people and basics: is the company properly incorporated, are the founders who they say they are, is there litigation, a sanctions issue or a history of failed companies? Those answers live in public records, scattered across registers, courts and the press.
A cited report puts them in one place, and makes it easy to ask the founder about anything that needs explaining.
A practical angel workflow
- 1
Screen before the first call
Run the free screen: if the verdict is AVOID, find out why before spending time.
- 2
Check the founders
Look at their other companies, any disqualifications, litigation roles and adverse media.
- 3
Unlock the full report for serious deals
Financials, ownership, Form D history, traction and the cited memo.
- 4
Share with co-investors
Send a read-only link that expires and can be revoked, or export the memo.
- 5
Keep watching
Add the companies you back to a watchlist and get alerts when something material changes.
How do syndicates and scouts use it?
- Syndicate leads attach a cited memo to a deal so members see the same evidence.
- Scouts screen many companies quickly and pass on only the ones with a clean, promising verdict.
- Investors who back the same founder twice get the history in one view.
