How to find companies that just raised, straight from the SEC.

Funding announcements are selective; filings are not. In the US, most private raises leave a public trace on EDGAR within weeks — here is how to use it.

The short answer

The most reliable public way to find US companies that just raised money is SEC Form D: companies raising privately under Regulation D file it, generally within 15 days of the first sale, and it is public on EDGAR. Watch new filings daily, filter them by industry, region, amount and recency, read each filing for the related persons and amount sold, add a second signal such as a hiring spike, and reach out while the company is choosing suppliers.

Finding newly funded companies, step by step

  1. 1

Watch new Form D filings daily

New filings appear in the SEC EDGAR daily index. Checking daily keeps you ahead of announcements — and catches raises that are never announced.

  2. 2

Filter to your ideal customer profile

Narrow by state or region, industry, amount sold and recency so only relevant raises remain.

  3. 3

    Read the filing

Note the amount sold, the date of first sale, the related persons (officers, directors, promoters) and the industry group.

  4. 4

    Add a second signal

A raise plus a hiring spike or a new executive is a stronger reason to reach out than either alone.

  5. 5

    Find the right person

Start from the related persons and the company’s own website to identify who owns the budget you sell into.

  6. 6

    Reach out with context

Mention the event, keep it relevant, and offer something useful for a company that has just funded its next stage.

What Form D will not tell you

  • Who the investors were — only the number of investors.
  • Raises outside the US, or under exemptions that do not require Form D.
  • Raises by companies that file late or not at all.
  • Valuation or terms.

How does MarketPrior automate it?

MarketPrior reads the EDGAR daily index every day and turns new Form D filings, amendments and amounts sold into trigger events linked to the filing. Filter the feed by region, NAICS code prefix, stage, amount raised and recency; save the search to get alerts on new matches; and reveal sourced contacts with lead credits when you are ready to reach out.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How soon after a raise is Form D filed?
Generally within 15 days of the first sale of securities, though some issuers file late.
Can I find raises outside the US this way?
No. Form D is US-only. For other countries, registry triggers such as capital changes can hint at financing.
Is it appropriate to contact founders right after a raise?
Yes, if the outreach is relevant and respectful. Newly funded companies expect suppliers to get in touch; generic spam is still spam.
Does MarketPrior show the investors?
In diligence reports, investors are inferred from Form D director and promoter seats and named participants — public record, not a cap table.
