The short answer
A hiring-spike trigger fires when the number of open roles a company publishes on its public job board jumps. MarketPrior reads public applicant-tracking-system (ATS) boards — Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable, SmartRecruiters and others — so the trigger works for companies in any country, and the roles behind the spike are kept as evidence.

Why is a hiring spike a buying signal?
Companies hire ahead of what they plan to do. A jump in engineering roles suggests a product push; in sales roles, a go-to-market push; in operations, scale. Each comes with new tools, onboarding and services to buy.
Because job boards are public and updated constantly, hiring is also one of the fastest signals available — often visible before a raise or an expansion is announced.
How is a spike measured?
MarketPrior reads the public job board a company uses and tracks its count of open roles over time. A jump in that count produces a hiring-spike event; the roles themselves are part of the evidence so you can see which teams are growing.
- Works for any company with a public board on a supported ATS.
- The same hiring signal feeds the traction section of a diligence report.
- Companies that hire without a public board will not produce this trigger.
How do hiring spikes combine with other triggers?
On its own, a hiring spike says a company is growing. Combined with a recent raise, a new executive or a new establishment, it says where the money is going and who is likely to be buying. Lead search lets you require several trigger types at once, and the intent score rises with fresher, stronger signals.
- Raise + hiring spike: funded growth, often in product or go-to-market.
- New executive + hiring spike: a new leader building a team.
- Hiring spike + tech adoption: a team scaling on a new platform.
